thumbsDown-watch - ACCIDENTAL LOVE [2015 US - English]

- Accidental Love follows Alice (Jessica Biel) who gets a nail stuck in her brain during a romantic dinner but is turned away by the hospital because she doesn’t have health insurance. Alice then decides that her best chance of getting treatment is to approach a helpless and unprincipled congressman Howard Birdwell (Jake Gyllenhaal) in Washington DC, hoping to petition for the provision of public healthcare for those withbizzare accidental injuries

- this is an unfinished film that started off with the titled "Nailed", directed and co-written by David O. Russell back in 2008, and was abandoned by the now Oscar-fueled director after numerous production delays and troubles with financiers. it finally found its ways to theaters earlier this year under a pseudonym of non-existent Stephen Greene

- i went in for this film with mild expectations (having watched the rather dubious trailer), though it's Jake Gyllenhaal. my verdict, it remained "unfinished", seemingly patched up poorly into a final product unconvincingly hoping to make it as a plausible film. the approach is largely dependent on satirical elements which represented subtle critiques of the American politics and culture. the film however loses its consistency and what should have been positioned as a dark comedy with smart political farce is suddenly plagued by low-brow moments and slapstick jokes which are unfortunately not that funny

- the only reason you would watch this film is the cast, with co-stars including James Marsden, Tracy Morgan, James Brolin, Kirstie Alley and Catherine Keener
Rating : D+
