FORREST GUMP ALMOST DID NOT HAPPEN, TOM HANKS PERSONALLY FINANCED ONE FAMOUS SCENE TO RESCUE THE SHOW

“The studio was one day away from pulling the plug on this one movie (Forrest Gump) I was going to make, and the director came out to my house and said, ‘Look, this is going to fall apart because they won’t give us the budget for shooting this one sequence, and we’ve got to have this sequence,’” Tom Hanks shares on his experience filming the 1994 epic romantic-comedy Forrest Gump which won multiple Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (Robert Zemeckis) and Best Actor (Hanks). In order to proceed, Zemeckis proposed that he and Hanks personally split the cost of shooting that sequence of Forrest running across the country, just like how it was envisioned. “I said, ‘All right,’” Hanks recalls, and continued “And we were 48 hours away from it being shut down. So I’m glad that worked out.”
