an upcoming British-American drama dealing with lesbianism in the 1950s, story follows a young woman (Rooney Mara) working as a department-store clerk in New York who falls for an older, married woman (Cate Blanchett). directed by Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven & I’m Not There), the film has been selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Blanchett shared that she admired the restraint exhibited by the characters in the film, who speak about the sex lives only sparingly. “[Carol’s] sexuality is a private affair. what often happens these days is if you are homosexual you have to talk about it constantly, the only thing, before your work. we’re living in a deeply conservative time.” the film adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s “The Price of Salt” is scheduled for a release later this year
