Anticipated-Watch - THE DANISH GIRL
This is a definite concoction for the Oscars. Helmed by Tom Hooper, Oscar winning director of The King's Speech (2010, by far one of my most favorite films) and Les Misérables (2012), The Danish Girl is based on the true story of Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of sexual reassignment surgery. And who better to take on this role but 2014 Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, who gave us such commitment in his physically-challenged portrayal of Stephen Hawking. The first posters for the transgender period drama show nothing but another drastic and amazing transformation for the 33 year-old Brit actor. The story will follow the life of Einat Wegener, originally a landscape painter, who realizes that she wants to pursue a life as a transgender after posing in women’s clothes for her wife (Alicia Vikander). The Danish Girl has been selected to be screened in the main competition section of the 72nd Venice International Film Festival, and it has been selected to be shown in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival
