There's no stopping director Alejandro G. Iñárritu now. Not only have all his five feature films garnered wide acclaim so far, but he's certainly even more fueled for perfection after his huge success with Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). His latest film The Revenant went into production in September and was supposed to wrap in March. Shooting will continue, while the budget climbed past US$95 million (insiders predicting it will most likely reach US$135). Iñárritu made the unusual choice to shoot the film in sequence, using only natural light. His ambitious methods have drawn splitting critics even within their crew members, with some saying that the film could turn out to be epic, while some describing the filming as by far the worst experience of their careers, citing it as "a living hell".

Inspired by real events, The Revenant follows 19th century explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) through deep snow and ordeals, battling with Native Americans and experiencing near-fatal mauling by a bear. Iñárritu had complimented DiCaprio, saying "He’s a brave, incredible actor. I’m so surprised about how good he is. I think there’s a profound understanding of humanity that I can see through his eyes.” During the filming of the battle scene, Iñárritu decided that a naked character should be dragged along the ground. Whilst the director maintains that he was fully aware and concerned about the actor's genitals being dragged, it has sparked rumors from insiders that the actor ended up in great pain during the shoot. Iñárritu has dismissed that as a lie.

To date many of the crew members insist that a lot of the misery could have have been avoided - and money saved - if some parts of the movie had been conceived with computer-generated effects. Iñárritu countered "That's exactly what I didn't want. If we end up in greenscreen with coffee and everyone having a good time, everybody will be happy, but most likely the film would be a piece of shit...when you see the film, you will see the scale of it. And you will say 'Wow'." The trailer looks absolutely stunning. I personally can't wait!
