EVERY ACTRESS NEEDS TO TAKE ON THE ROLE OF A POWERFUL & FEARSOME QUEEN, AND SALMA HAYEK DOES IT WITH GORE & STYLE
Competed at 2015 Cannes Film Festival, Tale of Tales is one intriguing period drama by Matteo Garrone which will give us fantasy, horror, witches, ogres, black magic, kings and queens; all in one. An Italian-led production with co-producers from France & UK, it will be Italian director Garrone's first English-language film. Garrone's portfolio is nothing less than impressive, as he has twice before won the Jury Prize in Cannes, with his Italian drama films Gomorrah (2008) and Reality (2012).
Salma Hayek plays a desprate queen who's willing to take drastic measures to bear a child. The film includes an iconic scene where the queen must eat the heart of a sea monster that has been boiled and served by a virgin. "The heart tasted disgusting…He [Garrone] wanted it to look exactly like a real heart inside, so a doctor would recognize what I was eating…It was [made of] pasta, candy – all kinds of disgusting things, I was gagging,” the 49 year-old actress shared.
