WOULD YOU GIVE M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN ANOTHER CHANCE?
Let's face it. After a good run with his first four studio movies, starting with “The Sixth Sense” in 1999, Shyamalan’s last four films have been a series of misfires. “Lady in the Water,” “The Happening,” “The Last Airbender” and “After Earth” severely tarnished his reputation as the director to look out for, and everyone basically gave up on his films. After a two-year hiatus where he detoured into television instead (where he gave a credible series Wayward Pines), Shyamalan is finally making a comeback to the big screens. With "The Visit", comes a story of a pair of siblings who are sent to their grandparents' remote Pennsylvania farm for a short trip, and soon discovers the bizarre and odd behaviours of the elderly couple.
Skeptical critics Alexa Hernandez & William Bibbiani have given their thumbs up after watching the preview screening, quoting it as "one of the best horror movies I’ve ever seen" and "M. Night Shyamalan’s best film in a very, very, VERY long time". Shyamalan tries to keep the audience guessing in more ways than one in this latest horror flick, sharing “It wasn’t just about the twist - In the moments of dark comedy, I wanted people to be thinking: ‘Am I supposed to be laughing or appalled? I can’t really tell. But I like it.’ ” The last bit actually got me thinking. I've always loathed the idea of combining horror with comedy. It is said that it will incorporate dark comedy within horror, not sure if The Visit can really pull it off. But I'm dead curious, I'll give Mr Shayamalan one more try!
