BEASTS OF NO NATION [2015 October]

Idris Elba may have been recently labelled by James Bond author Anthony Horowitz as 'too street' to play bond, but he definitely has no issue landing himself with other major roles. And we know he's good at what he does. He has received a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Detective John Luther in the BBC One series Luther, and an Oscar nomination for his performance as Nelson Mandela in Mandela : Long Walk to Freedom.

Elba's latest in Netflix's Beasts of No Nation which made its worldwide premiere at the Venice Film Festival this week has been showered with praises by critics. Directed by Cary Fukunaga and based on the book by Uzodinma Iweala, the film follows the making of an African child soldier (played by newcomer Abraham Attah) in the hands of a forceful and sinister warlord (Elba). Early reaction to Beasts of No Nation has been strong, particularly on Elba's staggering performance, which looks poised to go down as one of his career-best performances.
